Meet Mrs Cummings

My name is Kathryn Cummings but I tend to be called Mrs. C. I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone at Langton Primary school really well. I live in York and love being outside in the countryside with my dog, I also enjoy cricket, James Bond films and reading books.

Meet Mr Walker

I am delighted to have joined the team here at Langton and I am really enjoying my new role at the school. I have been teaching now for many years and I have previously taught across all ages in Key Stage Two with the majority of my experience being in Year 6. I have come from a much larger outstanding primary school where my responsibilities were behaviour and safeguarding. At Langton as well as being Class 3 teacher it is my role to lead Maths and PE.

I live in a small village on the outskirts of York with my wife and two young children. My personal life revolves around my family and I really look forward to the time we spend together. We go on camping holidays and days out whenever possible and I also have a keen interest in sport, cinema and music. I really enjoy participating in most sports although I seem to spend more time cheering for my children than playing myself now!

Rye Class This Term

Dear Parents,

First of all, I would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year and I hope that you have had a great Christmas. The children came back into school this week with many stories of exciting presents they had received and interesting places they had visited over the festive period. Outlined below is a summary of the areas of learning that Rye Class will be covering this term.

Our topic for this term is ‘Off with Her Head!’ During this topic we will be travelling back in time to meet the terrifying Tudors. Online research will help us to write biographies about influential people from the Tudor period and create a timeline of significant events. Our geography skills will help us to compare maps of Tudor London to present day London and plot Anne Boleyn’s journey to her execution. Our research will help us to learn more about Henry VIII – his life, his marriages and his break from the Roman Catholic church. We will also be writing persuasive letters, newspaper reports, poetry and creating our own Tudor portraits.

In Literacy we will be progressing with our class novel ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’ by Michelle Magorian which the children have really enjoyed so far. We will be also be writing persuasive arguments and debates as well as entering the BBC ‘500 Words’ short story competition. There will be a focus on grammar-based activities in class and we will be continuing to send home spelling, reading and homework as normal.

In Maths the children will be increasing their knowledge of fractions, decimals and percentages. This is an area lots of children find tricky so we will be working hard to improve their skills and confidence. The children have been working hard to learn their times tables so this should really help. All children in class are set Mathletics activities to do at home whenever possible which covers the whole maths curriculum and really improves their mathematical knowledge. If you could encourage them to do this at home it would be very much appreciated and really beneficial.
