Students’ average progress
Students’ scaled scores at KS2 are compared with national averages for students with the same KS1 starting points. The progress score measures the difference between the students’ actual scores and the national average scores for students with the same KS1 starting points. (The national average progress score is therefore 0.)
The government has defined a ‘floor’ standard below which schools would not be expected to fall. In 2017, the progress floor scores are -5 in reading, -7 in writing, and -5 in mathematics.
